3DD and Rufus Wainwright Honour Judy Garland With Fabulous 'TV Special'

15 March 2007

3DD Productions has just completed production on Rufus Wainwright sings Judy Garland – Live at the London Palladium, a stunning homage to Garland’s legendary show from Carnegie Hall in 1961. Wainwright, backed by a 36-piece orchestra, wooed an appreciative sell-out audience and oozed with pizzazz as he emulated the Wizard of Oz’s star’s finest moment.

Interspersed with wit and
humour, Wainwright’s repertoire included classics such as ‘When You’re Smiling’, ‘Do It Again’, ‘San Francisco’, and many, many more. He was also joined on stage by Judy Garland’s daughter Lorna Luft, his mother, singer/songwriter Kate McGarrigle, and duetted with his sister Martha Wainwright offering a superb rendition of ‘Stormy Weather’ and ‘Someone to Watch Over Me’.

Pre-sold to Channel 4 in the UK, the special, shot in High Definition has already been picked up by Universal/Geffen Records for a worldwide DVD release. The show will be distributed internationally by the 3DD Group’s international sales arm, 3DD Entertainment, and will be presented as part of their slate at MIP TV in Cannes.

Rufus Wainwright sings Judy Garland – Live at the London Palladium is produced by Andrew Higgie and directed by Russell Thomas.

Andrew Higgie, Managing Director at 3DD said: “Rufus’ Judy Garland evening has been one of the most talked about concerts in living memory – both in New York and London. Being able to bring 3DD on board to film it, for both a television special and DVD, has been a real privilege and great fun…”
