3DD Entertainment has finalised a deal with International Media, securing world rights (outside of North America) for two unique TV specials featuring China’s hottest musical phenomena Twelve Girls Band and ethnic dance musical Shangri-La.
Twelve Girls Band – Live in Shanghai (60’ & 90’) created by the ‘Father of Chinese Rock Music’, Wang Xiao-Jing, has already become a multi-platinum selling act all over Asia and was broadcast on PBS in 2007. This extraordinary all-female ensemble draws upon more than 1,500 years of traditional Chinese music, blending a rich legacy with classical, folk, and contemporary sounds. All members are classically trained and provide an eclectic mix of breathtaking sounds all played on ancient Chinese instruments, delivering orchestrated Celtic pieces such as Riverdance, through to modern renditions of tracks such as Coldplay’s ‘Clocks’.
Scheduled to air on PBS in the U.S. in 2008, Shangri-La (50’) is a breathtaking music and dance performance choreographed by Liping Yang, a tour-de-force in her native China. This visually effervescent performance blends traditional drumming, music and dance with contemporary elements. A kaleidoscope of intense colour emanating from extravagant costumes and superb lighting techniques, this is a multi-sensory event that tells age-old stories that speak across the years and across cultural boundaries.
Further to this, 3DD has secured the world rights (excluding North America) to concerts shot on HD, featuring diva Mariah Carey and one of the world’s hottest up and coming female artists, Rihanna.
Scheduled for a pre-Christmas transmission on the U.K’s VH1 Mariah Carey – The Adventures of Mimi (60’) acquired from Live Nation, captures the singer’s most successful tour to date. With album sales of over 160 million worldwide, and a career spanning 15 years, Mariah took her big show on the road for the first time in more than three years, belting out all her best loved tracks from power ballads to hip-hop tracks, and including a surprise guest appearance from Boyz II Men.
To accompany this fabulous concert is a special 35-minute behind-the-scenes documentary of the tour.
After winning Best Selling Pop Female Artist at the 2007 World Music Awards, Rihanna’s success and hit records look set to continue. 3DD will be offering buyers Rihanna – Live in Montreal (50’), seeing the artist delight audiences with some of her smash hits such as ‘Shut up and Drive’ and ‘Umbrella’ as part of her current international tour.
”When the Asia Television Market kicks-off next week, we will very much look forward to showcasing these exciting new acquisitions to buyers along with a few more surprises. Music programming is one of few genres that has no limitations and can be delivered to a diverse, multi-cultural audience and these gems will not disappoint!” commented Anita Barnard, Sales Manager, Asia/Eastern Europe, 3DD.
