Sundance to launch in Canada, picks up 3DD series

10 December 2009

Sundance Channel, which is about to launch in Canada, has acquired a movie industry talk show from 3DD Entertainment to broadcast across its new European and Asian networks.

The channel has acquired ‘In The House… With Peter Bart & Peter Guber’ (40x30') for its European and Asian feeds. The series is hosted by the eponymous Hollywood veterans, Bart and Guber, the former president of Lorimar Films and the former CEO of Sony Pictures respectively.

The deal, inked between 3DD and Rainbow Media, sees the show making its international debut on December 10, 2009, a week after its US premiere on Rainbow-owned US pay-TV channel, Encore. Produced by
Starz Entertainment, RayV Productions and drinks brand Bacardi, the show is Encore's first original commission.

Rainbow, which also owns the Sundance channels outside the US, said the series pick-up 'reinforces our commitment to providing relevant, timely and high-quality programming for its channels globally.'

Harold Gronenthal, Rainbow's senior VP and general manager, programme acquisitions and international development, added: 'Sundance Channel embraces the depth and insider sensibility that Bart and Guber bring to their interviews with global movie icons.'

The acquisition comes after a carriage deal last month between Rainbow, MEASAT and Ascent Media placed Sundance, and sister channel WE TV, on the MEASAT-3a satellite, in standard- and high-definition formats. It is the first time either channel has appeared in Asia.

Sundance has this year also planted its flag in France, with carriage deals in place with cable operators Numericable and Free.
