3DD Ramps up Factual Slate for MIPCOM 2006
03 October 2006

3DD Entertainment continues to expand on its factual activities, finalizing a series of deals on a broad range of documentary titles in the run up to this year’s Mipcom market.
Having recently struck a deal with Ann Druyan (Druyan-Sagan Associates), for the multi-Emmy Award-winning classic series Cosmos (13 x 60’), 3DD will be heading to Cannes with this stunning recently digitally re-mastered and restored series, which is arguably one of the best loved and most influential science programmes ever to be produced. Created and narrated by the late Dr. Carl Sagan, each episode is an awe-inspiring cosmic journey that appeals to a mass audience.
3DD has also secured an exclusive deal with Double Jab Productions to represent worldwide rights (excluding the UK) for a brand new revealing documentary on legendary Grand Prix racing star entitled Barry Sheene – The Definitive Film (1 x 60’ & 90’). The documentary is set to be the first of many for 3DD, as Double Jab have agreed a first look deal with the distributor for their new slate of profile based, all access programming for 2007.
Further factual fare new to the Indie’s slate includes Sex & The Silver Screen (6 x 60’), a landmark series produced by Eleventh Day, which explores the 100-year evolution of sexuality and censorship in motion pictures. Filled with Hollywood’s most compelling historical figures such as Marilyn Monroe, Veronica Lake and Brigitte Bardot, it addresses freedom of expression versus the protection of America’s constantly evolving social values.
Completing this new raft of factual acquisitions, 3DD also secured a deal with the Academy Award-winning company The American Film Foundation, to represent a collection of films and series, consisting of five titles including the Oscar-winning documentary Maya Lin – A Clear Strong Vision.
“High-profile, icon led documentaries have always featured in our catalogue, and we are now looking to steadily expand on this. These new Mipcom acquisitions demonstrate our commitment to this remit and the expansion of our offering to buyers during the market,” commented Rachel Job, Head of Acquisitions and Marketing, 3DD.
